Case Study: MLS NEXT to USYNT Call-Up in Just Over 3 Months

Oct 02, 2026

She was playing for Ventura County Fusion in the MLS NEXT league against boys.

That's the first time I noticed Natalia Bautista.

Not long after, she trialed with Angel City, a first division professional club on June 24th. She held her own.

She performed well enough that a U.S. Youth National Team scout took notice. They told her they'd be tracking her. But first, they wanted to see one thing, was she physical enough to compete at that level.

She was 16 years old. And instead of making excuses, she made a decision.

The Gap She Identified Herself

Coming out of that Angel City trial, Natalia's own feedback was clear. The women competing at the next level weren't just technically sharp, they were already physical, and they kept developing it.

She knew exactly what she needed to close that gap.

That's when we officially started working together.

The Before

June 24th , Age 16

  • Talented, technically skilled MLS NEXT player
  • Just finished a professional trial with Angel City
  • Self-identified physical gap holding her back from the next level
  • No structured strength, speed, or explosiveness training

The Work

Over the following weeks, we built Natalia's physical profile from the ground up. Speed, explosiveness, strength, and mobility, all developed specifically for the demands of the position and level she was preparing for.

Every session had one goal: close the gap she identified herself, and prepare her for the biggest stage of her career so far.

The After

July 28th, Capelli North America Tour, Denmark

4 goals. 3 games. One of the best individual performances at the entire showcase.

August 2nd, Chivas

An invitation to train with Chivas, with the intention of signing her.

Multiple D1 programs

Division I interest followed almost immediately after her showcase performance.

October 3rd–10th, West Palm Beach

Officially invited to U.S. Youth National Team October Camp, U18/19 , one of the highest honors available to a youth soccer player in this country.

Just Over 3 Months. Complete Transformation.

June 24th: A 16-year-old identifies her own physical gap after a professional trial.

October 3rd: She reports to U.S. Youth National Team camp.

In between, 4 goals at an international showcase, a Chivas invitation, and multiple D1 offers.

This is what happens when technical talent is paired with the physical development most youth soccer players never get access to.

What This Means For Your Athlete

Natalia isn't an outlier because of talent alone. She's an outlier because she identified exactly what was holding her back, and she closed that gap with intention.

Most competitive youth soccer players have the technical foundation already. What's missing is the structured, soccer-specific physical development that turns potential into opportunities, more playing time, D1 interest, national team consideration.

The gap Natalia is closing is the same gap holding back thousands of technically gifted players right now.

The only difference is she did something about it.

Is Your Athlete Ready to Close Their Gap?

If your son or daughter is technically skilled but you've noticed they're not quite physically ready for the next level, getting outmuscled, lacking explosiveness, or hitting a ceiling despite strong technical ability, this is exactly the gap MTM was built to close.

Complete the MTM assessment and let's find out exactly what's holding your athlete back and build the plan to fix it.
